This building is on a U-shaped plan with a southerly aspect lacing towards the mouth ol the Douro River. It occupies the centre of the allotment and observes the stipulated distance from the adjacent sites. The ground floor, eventually to be used for commercial purposes, is partially buried and covers almost the entire site. It is illuminated and ventilated from Rua do Aleixo and via two patios set at the same level as the interior space.
The vertical communications unit, containing lift and stairs, is on the northern side of the building, and provides access to all levels and the terrace. The service facilities are grouped alongside this unit on each floor. Illumination and ventilation for the building is via 1.30 x180m pivoting windows which face east and are sheltered by horizontal eaves- 30 cm. thick reinforced concrete slabs.
The building structure consists of 20cm. thick reinforced concrete bearer walls which are either set directly on the ground or on reinforced concrete pillars. The floor slabs are also in reinforced concrete. The outer walls have polystyrene foam insulation and are treated with an application of ash coloured mortar. The outer socle is in 0.12 x 0.20 m. granite. The terrace has thermal insulation and is paved with concrete slabs. The inner walls are in white stucco, while the wet areas are tile-clad. The flooring is in varnished wood or marble in the wet areas and the stairwell, and the window frames are in wood.
